There may be various reasons as to why the aircraft crashes, it can be human fault or a Mechanical fault or can be both, however the aftermath is that not every investigation on the crash of an Airplane is a smooth process. There are lots of complexities and procedures that need to be followed to come to a best conclusion that can best describe the happenings of that Event. Even after that there isn't a possibility that it may be well accepted by the eyes of the public.
This case is just about what has been described in the earlier paragraph, TWA - 800 was a 747 bound for Rome with a stopover in Paris from New York. The story of this Accident starts like this: The Aircraft was scheduled to depart from New York at around 7 p.m. , however due to some mismatch in the passenger's baggage it got late by 1 and half hours, when it was confirmed that the passenger was still on board the aircraft started its journey. It had taken off normally and passengers had relaxed in their seats , however inside the cockpit there were some minor problems that the pilots were facing, it was mainly due to some of the sensors problems that were continuously changing the heading the aircraft's position. The pilots thought it might be due to some faulty sensor, so they had resumed back to their work. It was almost 12 minutes when the aircraft took off from JFK and everything seemed normal at this point: The Pilot had requested the ATC to climb to 15000 Feet. The ATC granted them permission and soon the aircraft started climbing to its assigned altitude. But after a Few Seconds later the aircraft disappeared from the radar. The Controller tried his best to establish a connection with the aircraft but it all went in vain. After a few Minutes, the ATC started receiving messages from different pilots claiming that they saw a huge ball of Fire in the clouds which seemed like an Explosion in the aircraft, then the aircraft came down and went to Atlantic Sea.
So what really happened in few minutes? Well this answer came after 4 and half years of Investigation, it was a very hectic task for the Investigators as the plane went down in an ocean, so the task of recovering the aircraft piece by piece too a longer period of time, meanwhile several theories related to crash started forming in the media, the Investigators too formed several theories( Missile Attack, Bomb, Metal Fatigue at some part)etc.. But the Investigators still didn't know how the nose broke off from the body, so in order to find out they started rejoining the aircraft piece by piece: It took around 18 months to rebuilt the aircraft, next the investigators started evaluating and deducing several assumptions they made earlier and then came to a more suitable answer as to how the aircraft had crashed.
The Report published is however the Best Possible cause for the accident : "The weather on that Fateful day was hot, and as the Plane was delayed for about an Hour this resulted in forming of Vapor inside the Central Fuel tank(The thing here is that ATF is Non Inflammable when its in Liquid state, but when it turns into a Vapor state its exactly the opposite state)There is another element to this fault, it was that the plane was a bit older as the result the Wiring lacked proper Insulation, as the result the electrical shocks could easily travel within any part of the Aircraft {Even the Central Fuel Tank, through the sensor wires present Inside it}. That was the cause Highlighted for bringing down flight 800.
After the Event various additional measures were taken and implemented to make the airplane more secure.
