Covid-19 and Aviation Industry

Covid-19 caused a significant change in the way the companies looked at things, it had caused a major disruption in the way the the Industry functions.

Let's face it since the beginning of the pandemic, the airline industry had seen a significant way in the way it operates and functions. Many of the companies have started changing their business models to reduce the extent of the losses, yet many companies did adopt to the situation and cater to the needs of the different supplies during this pandemic.

So, let's start with the Negatives

• Many Companies went out of Business: - Since the travelling was restricted for most part of the world for the first half of 2020, many airlines had to shut their operations due to the losses they were incurring. Virgin Australia, Compass Airlines and Flybe are some of the companies that couldn't sustain their business

• Layoffs: - Whenever a company is running into losses the first thing they do is to layoff the unskilled and extra staffs which are being employed. Majority of the companies had laid off their employees though the numbers aren't released its estimated to be a huge number.

• Business Models: - The companies had to change the way their business models were being designed. Many of the companies started operating on the regional routes which weren't previously being catered to.

• Reduction in Aircrafts: - The companies also trimmed the number of aircrafts which were serving them, many of them were sent to parking spaces for a particular period of time and for the ones that were leased were sent back to the leasing companies.

Positives

• Catered to the Cargo Requirements: - Many of the aviation companies helped carry the cargo from one place to another, from one country to another, which significantly helped the cargo to reach on time.

• Sustainability now in Implementation: - While the sustainable fuels are being available and tested, companies are now looking for implementation for the same. Many companies like Emirates are started flying some of their aircraft's on sustainable ATF, other companies are also trying to run their aircrafts on sustainable ATF.

• Transporting People: - While many of the passengers had flown to their home countries, some of the people were stuck in the foreign countries due to restrictions and various preventive measures. The companies came forward and airlifted most of the foreign passengers and transported them back to their home countries.

These were some of the Positives and Negative aspects of Covid-19 on the Aviation Industry.
