Been in an Aircraft for the first time? There are probably lots of Questions about the Functioning of an Aircraft in your Mind isn't it? Primarily one question being, How does it maintain communication with the Ground?

Well, the answer is a Bit complicated, there are many systems that help maintain a contact with the ground, so lets talk today about one of the Points i.e., ACARS( Aircraft Communication Receiving and Addressing System). Yeah the name is longer but it serves a single purpose to send the basic flight data like , the Weather Information, Flight Identification Code and the Route its taking. Its done to get the the controller sitting on the ground know about the status of the aircraft.

Basically the ACARS System has three parts: Board Equipment, Land Equipment and the service provider of the System. The Board Equipment : It consists of a Sensor, a computer and a display. The display is to show all the details about the flight, the sensor is a device through with the communication gets established between ATC and the Aircraft. The computer acts as a medium for Entering and Transmitting information. Land equipment's consists of Antenna) a System and a Display Screen( Same as an Aircraft)? The last and the Most important part is the Service Providers i.e., the organizations that provides resources for such huge tasks to be conducted.

The companies providing services include: SITA, AIRNC, its thier network through which the communications take place.

So, the communication system provides a platform to exchange information.

*The topic is a Bit Technical, so If you want to know more about the system, kindly head to some of the Brilliant Web pages written by experts.
