LOCKHEED MARTIN C-5 GALAXY: A PREVIOUS DECADE BEAST

If there is something larger than the Boeing C-17 in the area of defense cargo, then its the C-5 Galaxy, launched in late 1980's this aircraft was meant to carry huge tonnes of cargo across hostile regions of the World and supply the necessities of the army during the then civil war going on in different countries. The basic idea of this aircraft was to carry huge cargo loads to longer distances than any other aircraft that was capable of during that time. It is still considered to be an aircraft that could carry anything in its belly from Tanks to helicopters, perhaps thats why the name of this aircraft is relevant.

But it was no easy task to maintain its reputation of all these years, the aircraft has also had its name in some of the few incidents which proved fatal to its reputation, there were three major crashes in which this aircraft was involved. Usually an aircraft like this is equipped with various defense technologies to protect it against enemy attack. However this aircraft being more than 25 years old hasn't got such technologies on Board.

The aircraft wings has a length of 211 Meters, (which is more than the wingspan of Airbus A- 380). Its the wings that is helpful in taking off in the air and flying, the wings are made from strong reinforce able materials that are both stronger and rugged. The longer length of the wing is reason for the balance and flying in the air.

The C-5 is longer than the C-17 and can carry tonnes of cargo that in a single trip A C-17 would take in 2 trips.

Overall its a Heavy defense aircraft that is capable of carrying huge cargos across the continents.
